While visiting London this weekend because of the new James Bond movie, I also had to find a couple of geocaches. There was no-one in sight, except for a repairman calling his boss (or his wife?) and walking around his car. Pretending that I was making a lot of pictures I searched the place for the cache, which I thought was still magnetic. After minutes I found it at the last place I looked for.

While visiting London this weekend because of the new James Bond movie, I also had to find a couple of geocaches. Yesterday, in the rain, we met Helenst but together we couldn't find this cache. Today (dry weather!) we came back and now I found it within a minute. Good to see that Helenst also managed to find it!

Het was mooi weer voor een fietstocht rond m'n voortuin. Als voorbereiding had ik de route al globaal uitgezocht, waardoor ik wist dat ik voorbij een ontzettend bekend plekje zou komen. Kon ik gelijk nog een cachecontrole verzorgen. Bij de ontbrekende letter ging het mis, maar dat ontdekte ik pas achteraf. Met een forse afwijking op de GPS zag ik dat er op de voorgevel van de sporthal een letter was verdwenen. Ik was echter vergeten dat ik naar een foto had moeten kijken. Zo kwam ik dus bij de verkeerde lantaarnpaal uit. Dat cijfer kon ik nog wel corrigeren, zodat de rest van de tocht probleemloos verliep. Tot aan de berekening van de cacheplek. Op anderhalve kilometer? Dat kon niet correct zijn. Dan moest de fout in de som van A t/m J zitten. Dankzij de topokaart vond ik een logischer oplossing en daar reed ik dus heen. Ondanks goed zoeken, begon ik te twijfelen. Net toen ik de Naaktslakkies opbelde voor een bevestiging, kwam er versterking opdagen: Faming en een collega. Met z'n drieën zochten we verder en tenslotte vond ik de zorgvuldig verborgen doos. Zo, en nu nog proberen om dit jaar de 2000e te loggen!

While visiting London this weekend because of the new James Bond movie, I also had to find a couple of geocaches. This was the fifth of the series. At this time there were no footballplayers but a lot of cyclists and joggers, so it was not easy to pick up the cache. Because of a couple of muggles sitting at the Pond, we now had 5 of the 6 numbers for the Bonus, but we gave it a try.

While visiting London this weekend because of the new James Bond movie, I also had to find a couple of geocaches. Because of a couple of muggles sitting at the Pond, we had 5 of the 6 numbers for the Bonus, but we gave it a try. And we found the cache in the dark!

While visiting London this weekend because of the new James Bond movie, I also had to find a couple of geocaches. This was the last one, after finding the Bonus. Because of a couple of muggles we omitted this one earlier this afternoon, but at this time it was dark and lonely. The series is now complete.

Of mijn gonio-berekening in een donker park in één keer zou lukken, betwijfelde ik. Daarom heb ik het puzzeltje thuis maar even opgelost. Daarbij maakte ik dankbaar gebruik van een opmerking in de log van Team Vink, waardoor ik exact bij de cacheplek uitkwam en na twee keer grijpen de koker in m'n handjes had. Geen tijd voor een feestelijk biertje, want ik moest op tijd bij het Event in Oegstgeest zijn. Snel weer op de fiets dus.

Ik moest nog stevig doorfietsen om op tijd bij het raadhuis te zijn. Op straat ontmoette ik al een paar bekenden, en toen het 19.00 uur was, vertrok de hele meute naar café De Gouwe. Het was natuurlijk een gouden greep om bij een café af te spreken en een bitterbal te beloven, want zo'n 60 hongerige en dorstige teams waren hier op af gekomen. Voor de fotograaf nog een hele klus om iedereen op de groepsfoto te krijgen. Hiervan had ik zo'n dorst gekregen, dat ik snel naar binnen moest voor een biertje... En ik bleek niet de enige!

Volgens de oorspronkelijke definitie van de organisatie ben ik (mei 2003) nog geen Ouwe Stomp, maar ik was blij dat het Event voor iedereen werd opengesteld. Veel (regionale) bekenden ontmoet en gesproken, een boottochtje gemaakt, een date gevonden, tips gekregen en een biertje gedronken met Biertjuh. De tijd vloog voorbij. Over een paar jaar weer? Dan misschien met naamstickers, want achteraf lees ik dat er geocachers aanwezig waren die ik graag nog even de hand had geschud. Voor organisatoren en alle aanwezigen:

Tijdens het ouwe Stompen Event waren een aantal kopietjes van deze puzzel neergelegd en (na een biertje) bedacht ik de goede grap om een fictieve oplossing neer te krabbelen en het blaadje achteloos ter zijde te leggen. Daarna zag ik gniffelend hoe diverse geocachers de 'oplossing' noteerden of fotografeerden of gingen kijken of ze het antwoord konden herleiden. Binnenkort zullen er dus wel een paar not-founds verschijnen... Later op de dag had ik een groeps-date en liet ik me op een luxe jacht met een biertje in elke hand naar de locatie varen. Daar waren net een paar verkleumde wandelaars vertrokken, die de 5 kilometer door het natte gras soppend met tegenwind hadden gestrompeld.

Op elk GME zie ik posters die oproepen om deze verdwenen Kabouter op te sporen. Nou heb ik in principe iets tegen elke Bob, maar nu kwam ik het kereltje met deze naam ineens tegen. Snel m'n glas neergezet en een foto gemaakt.
